Vinylshuffle: An Origin Story

I was always DJing at my own parties, and often people wanted me to teach them how to use the turntables. So I’d put them on the spot and we’d do it live. I started having everyone blindly pick a record. We’d put it on the empty turntable and I’d show them how to fade in their next song, and each person got to DJ their own choice.

Occasionally, people randomly picked weird records: spoken word, yoga records, whale effects, test records. We just went with it. Even the “bad” mixes sounded good. It was fun.

Lately I’ve been thinking of ways to use Twitch to recapture those surprise moments. That led to the creation of this stream and the new Vinylshuffle game. Chat spends Tizzbux (channel points) to pull a record from one of the 56 shelves behind me. Then I quickly choose a song to play from that record. And repeat.
